Ghostwriter announces further venue partnership with The Point, Sunderland

Ghostwriter Consultancy & Events are thrilled to announce a fourth new venue partnership adding The Point & Live Lounge, Sunderland to their portfolio. The five-year arrangement will see Ghostwriter oversee and operate all live music events within the venue (1250 capacity standing / 520 capacity seated / Live Lounge 200 capacity). The Point will join Eventim Olympia (Liverpool), Motion (Bristol), and Camp & Furnace (Liverpool) as the company further continues to grow.

Victoria Smith, Ghostwriter Director, commented that “The Point, originally Ritz ABC Cinema, is central to the cultural scene in Sunderland and the local area. The venue retains its art deco feel and occupies a prime location in the heart of the city next to the train station, metro and bus depot. This is a great space in which to watch a gig and the venue team have put this period of closure to good use and are installing a full production package as well as renovating their backstage area. We are looking forward to working closely with Andrew and his team to diversify their event programming, with a strong focus on live touring events.”

Director of The Point, Andrew Golding, said, “Ghostwriter bring a wealth of experience, insight and value to the venue and we are looking forward to exciting times ahead. We will be investing in the venue and with a newfound focus on the live sector we can’t wait to welcome touring artists to the venue which we believe is ideally placed to deliver great experiences for customers and artists alike.”

Located in Sunderland City Centre, The Point originally opened in 1937 as a cinema. Following a huge renovation in 1999, The Point is now a versatile, multi-use event space which is well equipped to facilitate a wide range of events, from concerts and corporate events to charity banquets and gala balls.

With a long history of entertainment, live music and club nights and sporting events, The Point has hosted artists such as Public Image Ltd, The Bluetones, Patrick Topping and Camelphat as well as boxing and MMA events with Ultra and “Proms at The Point” with the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra.

Corporate clients include ITV, Sunderland University and Sunderland City Council, who have used the venue for a variety of events and exhibitions.

Upcoming events at the venue include Jason Manford, Martin Kemp, Smoove & Turrell and Psychology of Serial Killers with Jennifer Rees.
